Shopping in Strasbourg

Shopping Streets
Pick up gifts from handthrown pots to fancy lacework on Place de la Cathédrale, nipping into La Chapellerie to don weird and wonderful hats. Designer labels such as Gucci and Chanel line the chichi boutiques on Rue des Orfèvres and Rue de la Mésange. Find fresh foie gras at Edouard Artzner, Rue de la Mésange, and pungent cheeses at La Cloche à Fromage, Rue des Tonneliers. The split-level mall on Place des Halles houses high-street shops like Mango and Zara.

Markets
Piled high with musty books, bric-à-brac and antiques (fake and sometimes real), Strasbourg’s flea market stretches the length of Rue du Vieil Hôpital every Wednesday and Saturday (until 6pm). For fresh local produce, head for Saturday morning’s food market on Place du Vieux-Marché-aux-Poissons. Wafts of gingerbread and vin chaud drift from the Christkindelsmärik during the festive season.

Shopping Tips
Standard shopping hours are Monday-Saturday 9am-6pm. Small boutiques often close for lunch (12pm-2pm). Major shopping centres, including Place des Halles, stay open until 8pm and most shops close on Sunday.
